Caramel Fudge Bars

1    package Supreme brownie mix (with
pouch of Chocolate Flavor Syrup)
1/4          cup milk
1    teaspoon vanilla
1           egg
1/2        (14 ounce) package vanilla caramels (25 caramels)
1    (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk

Heat oven to 350º. Grease bottom only of rectangular pan, 13 × 9 × 2 inches. Mix brownie mix (dry; do not add chocolate syrup from pouch), milk, vanilla and egg with spoon; reserve 1 cup. Press remaining brownie mixture in bottom of pan. Bake 10 minutes.

Heat caramels and chocolate syrup from pouch in 2-quart saucepan over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, until caramels are melted. Stir in milk. Pour over baked layer. Break up reserved brownie mixture; sprinkle over caramel.

Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until bubbly around edges. Cool completely; refrigerate for easier cutting. Cut into 4 rows by 6 rows.

Store tightly covered and, if desired, in refrigerator.

Another great cookie recipe from the"Big Book Of Cookies".

Crave the date: Grandma's recipe stirs lost love for classic bars

Not long ago, I received an email from a reader asking me if I had an excellent recipe for date bars. It had been ages since I'd thought of those classic sweet treats with a cookie-like mixture sandwiching soft, creamy date filling. I hadn't even noticed that date bars seem to have gone out of fashion.

High Country Baking: An elegant, easy pear almond galette

Editor's note: Living in the Colorado high country is pure joy. Baking in it isn't. High altitude makes cookies spread in the pan, cakes fall, and few baked goods turn out as they do at sea level. Wow your valentine with a home-baked chocolate treat

Chocolate candies and roses are traditional Valentine 's Day gifts for a reason -- they epitomize romance because they delight the senses. The deep red of the rose combines with its ethereal scent, while chocolate mixes an irresistible taste with an intoxicating aroma and a sexy feel as it melts over the tongue.
